Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

MAKING AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DOCTORS

We operate a flexible appointment system.

Time is set aside for patients who need to be seen without delay. If your problem is urgent it may not be possible to see your usual doctor but another professional will see you on that day.

HELPING THINGS RUN SMOOTHLY

Our standard appointment time is 10 minutes. If you feel your problem may take longer please ask the receptionist to arrange extra time for you.
Please make an individual appointment for each person to be seen.
If your appointment is for a medical examination for HGV, PSV Driving Licence or a Private Medical report for insurance, solicitors or employment a 30-minute appointment will be needed. Some of these medicals carry a fee.
The doctors try to keep to time in surgery as much as possible. If you are kept waiting a long time this may be due to unavoidable delays with the patients being seen before you that day. Please be patient.
Please do not ask the doctor to complete forms in surgery.
Please cancel your appointment if you are unable to attend. It can be used for another patient.

Telephone Advice

phone_ If you feel you do not need to come to the surgery but would like some medical advice you can speak to a doctor or the practice nurse.

Ring the surgery before 12 noon and leave a contact land line number and the doctor will ring you back after morning surgery.

Home Visits

The doctor will attend at home if he/she feels the patient is too ill to come to the surgery. Please telephone the surgery before 10am if possible if you need a home visit. The doctor will discuss this immediately if it is an emergency or may call you back if you feel this is acceptable.

Please give the receptionist the name, address, telephone number and the date of birth of the patient and as much medical detail as possible.
